A graveside service to celebrate and remember the life of Roger Houston McGill will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore. Roger passed away in Tulsa on Thursday, May 22, 2025. He was 64.
Born in El Paso, TX on February 1, 1961, to Marshall and Mary (Reed) McGill. Roger was raised and educated in the Catoosa area and graduated from Catoosa High School with the class of 1979. On February 14, 1981, at Hilldale Baptist Church in Claremore, Roger married the love of his life Bonnie Pruitt. Their marriage was gifted with 2 sons, Matthew and Zachary. Roger provided for his family working for Steel Service Building Company and then taking a position with Whirlpool of Tulsa as a Line Tech. Roger had a work career at both places that lasted for over 41 years before he was forced to retire with health issues.
A very simple man according to his family. Roger worked and took care of his family and that was his focus throughout his life. He loved his job and was always at work at least an hour early and might even be considered a bit of a workaholic. In fact, it was said he would rather be at work than doing anything else. A man that was never idle, on his days off he would contract to install metal buildings and put on metal roofs. When Roger did decide to take a little break from work, he had a passion for working on cars and trucks. He was very proud of all the restoration he had done on his 1993 Ford. No story about Roger would be complete unless you mentioned his love of dogs. The Shih Tzu breed was a family favorite and the latest puppy "Poppy" and Roger had a true bond. Poppy filled Roger's days with not only companionship but a few laughs as well.
A man that has left a legacy that will live on in the lives of his family and friends. Roger is survived by his wife of 44 years Bonnie, son, Matthew McGill and fiancé Ashley Hobbs, sister, Lorrie Johnson and host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his son Zachary.
