Roger Nelson Obituary

Roger D. Nelson

December 12, 1947 - December 25, 2025

Roger Dale Nelson, age 78, of Omaha, Nebraska, died peacefully on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025.

Roger was born on December 12, 1947, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Harold and Betty (Snavely) Nelson. A lifelong resident of Omaha, he attended Omaha Public Schools and graduated from North High School. He later studied at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln before beginning his career with Union Pacific Railroad. Roger dedicated 35 years of service to Union Pacific, retiring in 2001.

Roger had a lifelong passion for sports and competition and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed playing music, loved animals, and found great joy in gardening, traveling, and spending time outdoors.

Roger coached Little League football and was actively involved with the Eastern Nebraska Senior Golf Association (ENSGA), where he served in various leadership roles for many years. He made a lasting contribution to the organization by creating computer software that enabled players to track stats, scores, standings, and handicaps that continues to be used for all ENSGA tournaments.

A fierce competitor, Roger especially enjoyed teaming up with friends and winning several two-person events over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Betty Nelson. Roger is survived by a host of cousins and many friends who will remember him for his kindness, dedication, competitive spirit, and love of the game
