Roger Wayne Payton, 74, husband of Fifty-One Years to Judy Settles Payton, died Friday, October 31, 2025 at his residence. Born October 25, 1951 in Nelson County, he was the son of the late John William Payton and Beulah Tingle Lake. He was a mechanic, a farmer, and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and sports. Roger also enjoyed listening to music.
Survivors besides his wife include two sons: Marcus Wayne Payton and Garnett Davis (Amanda) Payton both of Harrodsburg; two sisters: Marilyn Conley of Bullitt County and Norma Ryan of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren: Haley (Mason) Baker, Maranda (Jacob) Yeager, Karleigh Payton, Brady Wayne Payton, and Sadie Beth Payton; six great grandchildren: Jaxson Baker, Eli Baker, Lynnie Jane Baker, Brinley Yeager, Ryan Yeager, and Timber Yeager; several nieces and nephews and a near and dear friend of the Payton family Margaret (the late Sam) Edwards also survive.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Donald, Joe, J.W., and Allen Douglas Payton.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at Mt. Pleasant Church with Derek Baker and Lynn Releford officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery with Mike Lake, Tim Sanders, Stevie Releford, Brian Stewart, Wayne Payton, Garnett Payton, Brady Payton, and Lynn Releford serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Waterfill and Roger's grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Mt. Pleasant Church.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Sunrise Children's Services, 1151 Perryville Road, Danville, KY 40422 and/or Gideon's International, P.O. Box 176, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.
