Roger Dennis Rice, 75, of Charleston, IL passed away at 5:36 PM on Monday, November 4, 2024, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the New Hope Worship Center, 2175 East Harrison Ave., Charleston, IL. Pastor Sangram Kodavatikanti will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. to 10: 30 A.M. prior to the service at the church. The Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola, IL is assisting with arrangements.

Roger was born on January 14, 1949, in Charleston, IL. He was a son of Kenneth Allen and Eleanor Mae (Rosebraugh).

He is survived by five children, Elisabeth Rice of Bolingbrook, IL, Tim Rice and his wife Desiree of Charleston, IL, Aaron Rice of Bolingbrook, IL, Cali Rice of Charleston, IL, and Geoffery Rice of Milford, IN, six grandchildren, Alexander, Macenzie, Ezra, Gwendolyn, Andre, and Ameerah Rice, and three siblings, Beverly Harshbarger and her husband Bob of Williamsburg, VA, Randy Rice and his wife Becky of Charleston, IL, and Barb Carr and her husband Doug of Greenup, IL. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Roger graduated from Charleston High School in 1967 where he played on the basketball team all four years of high school.

Roger had an entrepreneurial spirit, having owned his own business for several years. He had worked as a truck driver, and Drake Homes in Charleston, IL as a painter. In his later years he found joy in being a handy man and helping others. 

Roger enjoyed HAMM Radio – staying up late or getting up early to talk to people from all over the world. He also enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, asking each grandchild, every time he saw them, "when am I going to take you fishing." Roger was an avid Chicago sports fan, from cheering on the Chicago Cubs Baseball team to watching the Bears, he enjoyed all the different sporting events. Roger also was an avid animal lover, taking in stray pets where he could and giving them a home. 

Memorials may be made to Roger's family to help with funeral expenses.
