Roger James Silvestri, 84, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday June 10, 2024 at his home within Arbor Landing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was born on July 25, 1939 in New York City, New York to the late Agostino Silvestri & Maria Biaggioni Silvestri.
Left to cherish Roger's memory are his adoring wife of over 60 years, Mrs. Adelaide Pagano Silvestri of Myrtle Beach; their children, Stephen Silvestri and his wife, Darlene, Susan Hodgkiss and her husband, Paul & Michael Silvestri and wife, Terriann; adoring grandchildren, Kristen (Eric), Nicholas, William, Travis (Amber), Max (fiancé, Ashley), Dominic & Anthony; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Adelaide, & Deacon; brothers, Dennis Silvestri & William Silvestri; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.
Roger was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and was a graduate of New Utrecht High School. He proudly served our country in the United States Army Reserves. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to New York, to the love of his life and they were wed on November 30, 1963. They moved to College Point N.Y., where they raised their three children and after 10 years, they moved to Lincroft, N.J. where they resided for 26 years. In 1996 after retiring they moved to Lake Ridge Community in Toms River, NJ. While in Lake Ridge, Roger helped establish the Men's Club and was its first President. Roger also served as a member of the Dover Township Board of Health and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary's Church and at St Barnabas Assisted Living. Roger graduated from St. Peter's College in Jersey City with a B.S. in Accounting. Roger put his degree to use as a federal government employee. He started with the Department of Defense and the Atomic Energy Commission as a Contract Auditor and worked his way up through various positions to Regional Director of NCSD for U.S. Customs Service for 30 years. He was a life long member of the Columbia Association, and was honored as Man of the Year in 1986. He was a member of the Holy Name Society US Customs Service and served a term as President. In addition, he was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus.
Roger and Adelaide had recently settled back in Myrtle Beach after spending many summers here. In his free time and above all else, Roger relished time spent making memories with family and friends. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, his bright smile and the love he had for his family.
