Roger Elwin Smith, aged 73, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at his home in Bitely, Michigan. Born on March 15, 1952, in Fremont, Michigan, Roger lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family and passions.
Roger was a cherished resident of Bitely, where he spent his days as a devoted Thermotech Operator at Howmet and a skilled barber. His work ethic and craftsmanship were admired by many, reflecting his commitment and pride in all that he did. Roger was a man who found joy in the great outdoors, cherished the serene moments of hunting and fishing, and had an adventurous spirit for horseback riding and rodeos. He was happiest when sharing these activities with his loved ones.
He is survived by his significant other, Vicky Brannam, his loving children, Stephanie Mikolich,Travis Smith, Courtney Brannam, his dear grandchildren; Olivia Mikolich, Lily Voelker, and Felix Voelker, his sisters, Wanda Agens, Ida Best, and Iva (Byron) Fairchild; and many special friends, nieces, and nephews who held him dearly in their hearts. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Leona (McGahan) Smith, and his sisters, Georgeanna Clary and Esther Parks.
A graveside service and luncheon to celebrate Roger’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and the indelible mark he left on each of their lives. Arrangements have been provided by Crandell Funeral Home - Fremont Chapel.
