Roger Steffensmeier Obituary
He was born on Aug. 19, 1943 in Fort Madison to Clarence and Margaret Schumaker Steffensmeier. On June 6, 1964 he married Helen Brent in Fort Madison. Roger worked at Sheaffer Pen Co for 37 1/2 years and was a supervisor for 17 of those years. He then worked for the Fort Madison Community School District for five years before finally retiring in 2005. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Sacred Heart Church. Roger loved doing yard work and raised beautiful flowers. He also enjoyed feeding songbirds, especially cardinals. Roger was an avid LA Rams fan and attended numerous games with his family as well as an avid NASCAR fan and attended several races.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Steffensmeier of Fort Madison; one son, Roy Steffensmeier of Fort Madison; one daughter, Cheryl (Kevin) Williamson of Marion; two grandchildren, Rayce Steffensmeier and Keatynn Williamson; one brother, Marvin (Emmajean) Steffensmeier of Fredericksburg, Va.; sisters-in-law, Gail Steffensmeier of Fort Madison, Kathy Klein of Burlington, Ruby Dravis of Burlington, Diana Williams of Ft. Worth, Texas, Phyllis Robb of Mt. Vernon, Ill. and Janet Morris of St. Charles, Mo.; brother-in-law, Robert Brent of West Burlington; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carroll Steffensmeier; mother-in-law, Ruby Irene Brant; sisters-in-law, Vivian and Carol and brother-in-law, Ralph.
The funeral service for Roger will be held on Monday, Jan. 12, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Gary Beckman officiating. The family will meet with friends from 12:30 until the time of the service. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for PAW Animal Shelter and online condolences may be left at www.kinglynk.com.
