Roger Stewart was born to the late Johnnie B. Stewart on January 29, 1953 in Houston, Texas. Roger attended St. Stephen Baptist Church at an early age. He accepted Christ and was baptized at the Holman Street Baptist Church under the leadership of the late M. B. Johnson, II. Roger joined God's Grace Community Church in 2016, and was an active member of the Male Chorus and Sunday School.
Roger attended Booker T. Washington High School for two years but graduated from Reagan HS (now called Heights HS) in 1971. He went on to Houston Community College, where he attained an Associate Degree in Accounting. He began his professional career in the mail room at Southwestern Bell (AT&T) as a mail attendant in 1973 and later became a Communications Tech. After 37 years of working with Southwestern Bell now AT&T, Roger retired in 2010.
On Christmas Day, December 25, 1974, Roger met the love of his life, Carla Smith. They were united in marriage in June of 1977 and to this union three children were born, Ra'Shandra, Ra'Kisha, and Roger Jr.
Roger loved to have fun with family and friends. He loved dancing, dominoes, and playing cards on the weekends. He also organized a flag football team of SWB employees; he was an avid sports fan. Roger was the treasurer for his Family Reunion Organization for many years. When it came to money, his books had to be in order. Roger also loved being surrounded by his grandchildren: Jasmine, Jessica, Arian, and A'Rianna.
Roger's journey here on earth has come to an end but like Paul, "He fought a good fight, finished his course, kept the faith henceforth there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give him at that day; and not to him only, but unto all of them also that love his appearing."
On Friday, May 3, 2024, Roger made his transition, He was preceded in death by his mother, Johnnie B. Stewart, his brother Johnnie L. Stewart, and four aunts, Esther Mae Buckner, Rosa Lee Stewart, Annie Lee Taylor and Mae Bell Green.
Roger leaves to cherish his memories and continue the legacy he left his loving and dedicated wife Carla Stewart; three children, Ra'Shandra Adams (James), Ra'Kisha Woodard (Adrian), and Roger Stewart, Jr.; one brother, Alvin R. Stewart of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren, Jasmine Adams, Jessica Adams, Arian Woodard, and A'Rianna Woodard; two nieces, Re'Elisama Richardson, Andrea Franklin; two nephews, Christopher Smith and Carlton Franklin, Jr.; three cousins, Arthur Buckner, Albert Powell, and Hollie Hollie; three godchildren, Stephanie McNeil, Marcus Compton, and Derek Criddle; three special family friends, Reena Harris, Tommy Reeves and Dezra Jefferson.
