Roger Lee Taylor, Sr. was born on January 15, 1937 in
Sicily Island, Louisiana to Tom Taylor and Anna (Long) Taylor. He passed away on January 20, 2023 at the age of 86 years.
Roger gave his life to Christ at an early age. He received his high school diploma from Saginaw High School. He also studied at the Extension of the American Baptist Theological Seminary (
Saginaw, Michigan), where he received a certificate in Christian Training and a diploma in Theology.
Roger worked for Grey Iron General Motors Corp. for a number of years before retiring in the early 80s. Roger was an active member of his church. While attending Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, he regularly attended Bible Study, Laymen's meetings, and Sunday School. He also served as a Trustee and Usher. In 1995, Roger united with the Corinthian Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Roy L. Manning, where he continued participating on the Usher Board and attending both Bible Study and Sunday School. Roger also enjoyed the outdoors, and was notorious for going on hunting and fishing trips. He also enjoyed cooking various meals for his family and friends and he loved to barbeque outside on his grill.
Roger leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Charles Brass,
Baytown, TX; daughters, Laurentina Taylor and Anner Taylor, both of
Saginaw, MI; a son, Roger (Felicia)Taylor, Jr, Goodyear, AZ, and a daughter, Kizzy (Andre) Daniels, Hogansville, GA; also surviving are his grandchildren, Jasmine Lewis, Erma Allen, Demetrius Taylor, Fitzroy Gill II, and Rhen Wright,
Saginaw, MI, Andreas Taylor,
San Diego, CA, Christopher Taylor, South Haven, MS, and Kalena Taylor,
Cordova, TN, Trinity Taylor and Isaiah Taylor, Goodyear, AZ, and Antonio "Dre" Daniels II and Anderson Ajay Daniels, Hogansville, GA; seven great-grandchildren; three special nephews, Donzel Taylor, Randy VanHook, Jr, and Willie (Jewel) Humphrey, Sr, all of
Saginaw, MI; two special nieces, Linda (Damon) Mays,
Phoenix, AZ, and DeNanzel (Haven) White,
Milwaukee, WI; special great-niece, Lisa Thomas,
Saginaw, MI; special great nephew, Jose Douglas,
Grand Rapids, MI; special great-great nephew, LeVunte Thomas,
Saginaw, MI; a special cousin, Charles (Nola) Taylor; two sisters-in-law, Willa Mae Schultz and Gwendolyn Smith, both of
Buffalo, NY; two special friends, Ada Blacknell, Merriville, IN, and Terry Triplett,
Saginaw, MI.
Roger Lee Taylor was preceded in death by his daughter, Phyllis Taylor, his parents, seven brothers, Tommy Taylor, Lemon Taylor, Emmett Taylor, Isaiah Taylor, Edward Taylor, Samuel Taylor, and Louis Taylor; two sisters, Annie Lee Humphrey and Eva VanHook; brother-in-law, Randy VanHook, Sr, and his devoted friend, Jacqueline R. Taylor.
Funeral service will take place 11:00 AM Friday, January 27, 2023, at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave.,
Saginaw, Michigan 48607. Pastor Roy L. Manning officiate. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave.,
Saginaw, MI 48601. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
