Roger (Tom) Thomas Trueman, age 77 of Olathe, Kansas, was reunited with his loving wife, Joyce, Tuesday evening, March 26, 2024.
He was born in Sedalia, MO on July 15, 1946. He is preceded in life by his parents, Donald and Jessie Trueman of Sedalia, and his wife, Joyce Trueman of Olathe. Tom graduated from Smith Cotton High School in 1964 and attended University of Central Missouri briefly before enlisting in the United States Army in June 1966. Soon after, he was deployed to Vietnam as part of the 9th Infantry Division stationed in Pleiku as a Communication Operator. He proudly earned the following recognitions: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, 2 0verseas Service Bars, and an Expert Rifleman medal.
He arrived back home in December 1967 and married his High School sweetheart the same month.
Tom had lived in Platte City and Jefferson City, MO prior to moving to Olathe, KS in 1980. He was an officer with the Platte City Police Department for several years, until moving to Jefferson City, where he began his career in Information Systems in the telecommunication industry for over 35 years. Tom retired from Sprint to begin the next chapter in their life, which focused on cruising and time with their grandchildren. He enjoyed thriller/mystery novels, target shooting and time outdoors fishing at a nearby lake. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed an upbeat groove and disco beat with his dancing queen. In recent years, he looked forward to his Wednesday morning breakfast group with close friends and was always ready to tell an intriguing story from his time in the service or a situation that occurred during his career. He was also very happy to share Dad jokes. Not just one, but many.
Tom is survived by his loving family, Katherine (Kat) Gardner, daughter; son-in-law Mark, daughter Kristen Runion; son-in-law Trent, all from Olathe; sisters Donna Allcorn of Republic, MO and Connie Wyatt, Rancho, NM. His grandchildren, Brandon Wright, Miranda Gardner, and Jordan Beaman, all from Shawnee; Sophia Gardner and Peyton Wright, both from Olathe.
Services will be held Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Penwell-Gabel, in Olathe, KS at 2:00pm, followed by a reception celebrating his life. The family invites everyone to attend and share their memories.
