ROGER TURNER Obituary

TURNER, Roger F. Jr. Died unexpectedly on June 2, 2021 at the age of 88 at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. He was born on September 22, 1932 in Norwood, MA. He was the eldest son of the late Roger Felix Turner and Louise Lambert Turner. He was also predeceased by his sister Sandra Turner Cann, his niece Deborah Cann and his longtime partner Patricia Kelly.

Roger is survived by his brother Michael W. Turner and his wife Lynne G. Turner of Barnstable, MA and their son and Roger's godson, Ross Whittier Turner, his wife Jennifer Turner and their son Reid Turner of Tampa, FL. He is also survived by his two nephews, Gregory Cann and his wife Joanne of Stratford, CT and Jonathan Cann of Milford, CT.

Roger was a constant figure and appointed member of the Conservation and Historical Commissions, Old Town Hall Reuse Committee, Master Plan Implementation Committee and the Emergency Management Administration and Sewer and Water Commission, and intimately involved in many other activities to support the town he loved so much. In his early years, while in the service during the Korean Conflict, he became enamored with ham radios and continued his love of electronics and radios to the present. He was also an accomplished photographer, often seen recording events at figure skating competitions and gatherings with his father, Roger F. Turner, a seven-time U.S. National Figure Skating Champion and World and Olympic Figure Skating Competitor.

Roger dedicated his life to the Town of Walpole and will be sorely missed by the town's people and his friends and family.

The family has planned Visiting Hours at the James H. Delaney and Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, WALPOLE, MA on Saturday, June 12 from 2:00 to 5:00. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Walpole Historical Society and the Walpole Town Library, or a charity of your choosing.

Roger was one of a kind! His office on the third floor of the old police station (Town Hall) was filled with radio equipment, wires, antennas, batteries, etc. I looked like a disaster, but if you asked for a part Roger knew right where to find it!! He was a Walpole Legend! May you Rest In Peace Roger, you will never be forgotten.

Roger was a kind and generous man. Though I haven’t seen him in nearly 50 years, I remember him fondly. He did some pro Bono photography when I was a teen applying for an AFS placement, and we later hired him to photograph our wedding. I remember him at the pond, an avid and accomplished skater.
My condolences to Mike and his family. May you find comfort and support from your friends, family and memories of good times together.

It will be hard to imagine Walpole without Roger. We knew him through amateur radio and Emergency management, and he was a dear friend. Our condolences to his family on your loss.
