William Bruno Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Roberts & Sons Funeral Home - Foxborough from Mar. 9 to Mar. 10, 2026.
William "Bill" Edward Bruno, Sr., 79, of Foxboro, MA, and Fort Myers, FL, passed away surrounded by his family on March 6, 2026. Born on March 25, 1946, in Albany, New York, Bill lived a life filled with dedication to his family, community, and passions.

Bill grew up in Walpole, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Walpole High School in 1963. Shortly after, he served his country in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1967 aboard the USS Conyngham destroyer. His time in the Navy was a source of great pride for him throughout his life.

After his military service, Bill returned to Massachusetts, where he married his wife, Joanne (Farrell), and started a family. He became a beloved figure in the Walpole community as a walking postman. For nearly four decades, he faithfully delivered mail along his 10-mile route through town. Many residents came to know and appreciate Bill not just as their mailman but as a friendly and familiar presence in their daily lives.

Bill's love for music was one of his defining characteristics. An avid record collector with a particular passion for the music of the 1950s and 1960s, he was well-known locally for his extensive knowledge of oldies music. He even shared this passion as an oldies DJ on Rhode Island radio stations, bringing music to listeners with his curated playlists and deep appreciation for the era's music.

A devoted sports fan, Bill cheered enthusiastically for the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He especially enjoyed attending Fenway and spring training games. Bill spent over 25 years participating in a fantasy baseball league with his son Michael, a tradition that culminated in winning the league in 2025.

Bill's family was at the heart of everything he did. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Elinor Corcoran, sister Shirley (Richard) Finch, his children William Bruno Jr., Kimberley Hearn (Bobby), Michael Bruno (Lisa), and Keith Bruno (Wendy); and bonus children John Corcoran and Kathleen Corcoran (Anton Romano). He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Colby and Sadie Bruno; Derek (Jenna), Amber, and Jenna Hearn; Donovan Gargiulo; Declan and Zoe Corcoran, and many dear cousins, nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Joanne, and his parents, Amelio and Marjorie.

Bill's memory will live on through those who knew him as a kindhearted man with an easy laugh and infectious enthusiasm for life's simple pleasures, whether it was sharing stories about music history or rooting for his favorite teams.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday, March 19th, at Roberts Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxboro, from 4-7 pm, with a 10am mass at St. Mary's, 58 Carpenter St., Foxboro, on Friday, March 20th, with burial to follow at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Instead of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the st. jude's hospital or the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida.
