Roger L. Umland, 90 of Elk Point, South Dakota was promoted to heaven on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Southern Hills Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time at the church.
Roger was born the son of Leo and Martha (Luther) Umland on August 12, 1935 in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. After completing high school, Roger honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957. Upon his discharge Roger married Sally Ann on April 19, 1957. They enjoyed almost 50 years together until her passing in 2007. He met Marilyn Chandler in 2019 and they had a loving dedicated companionship beyond measure.
Roger taught at Fort Atkinson Elementary for most of his 35 year teaching career. When he wasn’t teaching, he was painting homes with a couple of fellow teachers.
Roger always started his day with prayer and reading his Bible. He enjoyed listening to gospel music and loved attending church. Roger was a very thoughtful and giving person. He supported his church and many Christian organizations.
Roger played golf for many years. He never missed watching a game of Badger football, the Packers or the Brewers.
Roger is survived by his daughters, Rhonda (Bruce) Blatchford of Elk Point, SD, Pamela (Alan) Hanson of Winnebago, IL, and Leighann Martin of Waukesha, WI; grandchildren, Chris (Jamie), Justin (Paige), Kathryn (Brandon), Steven (Danielle), Kylee, Adrian (Zachary), Sarah (Dillon), and Becky (Seth); and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sally Ann; sister, Barb; and son-in-law, John.
