Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Homes, Denzer Chapel on Sep. 16, 2024.
Roger Lee Vanover, 86, of Marion Ohio was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior surrounded by family on September 13, 2024. He will forever be known for his deep faith in Christ, the love for his wife and family and a true spirit of service to help others in any way possible.
Roger was born April 14, 1938 in Tarpon, Virginia. He was the son of a coal miner and a mother of faith. Roger attended school in a two-room school house through the 8th grade where he started his life in Virginia with his parents and two sisters Fredda and Lucy. He moved to
Marion, Ohio after graduating from Beaver High School where he arrived in town with nothing but a cardboard box of his belongings, a work ethic, second to none, that never tired throughout his life.
Once in Marion, Roger began a career at the local Whirlpool factory where he worked as a maintenance technician until his retirement more than two decades later. The greatest event in Roger's life came on June 27, 1964 when he married the love of his life, Janice (Koontz) Vanover. Roger and Janice were inseparable throughout their sixty years of marriage. In that time, they worked tirelessly together in raising a family of three beautiful girls all the while building a successful real-estate business that continues to thrive today as Vanover Management Co., Inc.
If you knew Roger you knew he had a heart for helping his community, the less fortunate and under privileged children. He was a very humble servant always doing things quietly, unnoticed and giving the glory to God in his gifts. Roger was an active member at Central Baptist Church and served on several boards like Goodwill and the Marion Community Foundation. He was a member of Rotary, Kiwanis, Y- Men's, and loved ringing the bell with his grandchildren for the Salvation Army.
Roger will be deeply missed by his loving wife Janice, his children: Lisa (Andrew) Thomas of Marion, Valerie (Michael) Mogavero of Cape May, NJ and Connie (Andy) Grear of Downingtown, PA; Granddaddy, as he was affectionately called, was larger than life to his five grandchildren: Jacob (Tabby Wymer) Thomas, Michaela Thomas, Jackson Grear, Carter Lee Grear and Chase Grear. He is survived by his youngest sister Lucy (Chuck) Hamilton.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Margie (Beavers) Vanover, his sister and brother-in-law Fredda and Charles Sanders.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the Marion Ohio Health Hospice for their tender care and support of Roger and his family.
