Roger William Watkins, 78, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
Roger was born in Greenville, Kentucky on June 23, 1945 to the late William L. "Lewis" and Audrey D. (Vincent) Watkins. Roger honorably served in the United States Army from 1965 until 1967. He worked as a produce manager for 30 years for Kroger and Key Markets and retired from United States Postal Service after 21 years of service. Roger attended North Haven General Baptist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors and playing table tennis. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Gail (Taylor) Watkins of Evansville, IN; daughters, Stephanie Farmer (Rodney) of Evansville, IN and Shelley Spears of Evansville, IN; sisters, Glenda Lloyd (Bill) of Evansville, IN and Donna Watkins of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Brittany Farmer (fiancé, Cole Meyer), Dylan Spears, Brooke Farmer, Braden Farmer and Chelsey Spears; five nieces; and one nephew.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; and by a niece, Tasha Pike Stuteville.
A celebration of Roger's life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711 with Pastor Brandon Ryor officiating. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.
Friends may visit from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Browning Funeral Home and again from 9:00 am until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Riley Hospital for Children, 705 Riley Hospital Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46202.
