GLENWOOD - Roger William Wissing, 83, of Glenwood, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Nov. 6, 2024, at Glen Haven Village in Glenwood, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, at St. Libory's Catholic Church in St. Libory. Father Sid Bruggeman will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will be at a later date in the St. Libory Catholic Cemetery.

Roger was born at home in St Libory on Sept. 21, 1941, to John and Lorraine (Leschinsky) Wissing. He grew up on the family farm and attended St. Libory Elementary School and St. Paul High School. In 1962, he married Beverly Nelson, with whom he shared five children, Jeff, Michela, Shirley, Candy, and Randy. In 1985, Roger married the love of his life, Theresa McIntosh, gaining an additional daughter, Kinowa.
Roger farmed in St. Libory area for a number of years before working at the Swift Meat Packing Plant in Grand Island, where he earned the nickname "Farmer" from his coworkers. After Swift closed its Grand Island location, he transferred to the Glenwood, Iowa, plant and worked until its closure. He then spent several years at RONCO Construction in Omaha, taking on various construction jobs until his retirement.
A lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Roger enjoyed sports. In his younger years, he boxed in the Golden Gloves, played baseball, and loved golf. Despite facing numerous health challenges, Roger's fighting spirit never wavered; he confronted each challenge with determination and resilience.
Roger is survived by his wife, Theresa Wissing; his children, Jeff (Tammy) Wissing, of St. Paul, Michela (Jill) Bahensky, of Lincoln, Shirley (Gregg) Schultz, of Grand Island, Candy (Jon) Jakubowski, of Ashton, Randy Wissing and Melinda, of Lincoln, and Kinowa (Brian) Bendt, of Glenwood, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brothers, Norman (Geri) Wissing, Alan (Becky) Wissing, Steve (Brenda) Wissing, all of St. Libory; sisters, Jan Culp, of Grand Island and Marjean (Rick) Pedersen, of Thornton, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carol Fenton; and his great-grandson, Connor Amsberry.
