Roger Joseph Young

Roger Joseph Young, age 74, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 28, 1950, in Hathaway, Louisiana. Roger was a beloved son of Collin and Ida Young.
Roger was a quiet and humble man who came to know Christ. He was generous in spirit, always willing to give of himself to others. Roger found great joy in gardening and time spent outdoors hunting and fishing. Family was at the heart of his life. He treasured afternoons spent having coffee at 2:00 p.m. on the back porch swing with his loved ones, creating cherished memories. Roger's love for his family and enjoyment of the outdoors will live on in all who knew him.
Roger's primary career was 25 years as an AG Pilot. He was a skilled worker and dedicated provider. Roger was known for his ability to build and create almost anything. He took pride in sharing his knowledge with his family and grandchildren, which taught them important skills and the value of hard work. Off-season businesses that he owned included a sawmill operation, welding, and dozer services. After retirement, Roger was employed by the Allen Parish Police Jury for twelve years, operating various types of equipment.
Roger is survived by his devoted wife, Sallie Hymel Young; his children Brian Young and wife Tiffany, Stina Young LeBlanc and husband Scotty, and Brandie Carpenter and husband Scott; and his beloved grandchildren Madison Young Fontenot and husband Dylan, Alexis Young Fierge and husband Cameron, Gavin LeBlanc, Ethan LeBlanc, Cassidie Carpenter, and Cale Carpenter. He is also survived by his sisters Beverly Young Thigpen and husband J.B., and Paula Young Walker and husband Burke, including many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly. Roger was preceded in death by his parents Collin Joseph Young and Ida Fontenot Young; his brother, James "Jimmy" Young; and his nephew, Keith Young.
Pallbearers are Cale Carpenter, Danny Joe Bell, Brent LeBlanc, Rod Steed, Monk Thigpen, and Brother Bell. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Oliver, Kent Fontenot, Norman DeBarge, and the Kinder High School class of 1968.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice in his honor.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2025, and will continue Friday, October 3, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. to the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Kinder Riley Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 315 N. 14th St., Kinder, LA 70648. Pastor E.J. McCann and Reverend Scott Benoit will be officiating. Interment to follow at Jessie Johnson Cemetery, 519 Jessie Johnson Road, Kinder, LA.
