Roland Edgar Deike, Sr.
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Roland E. Deike, Sr., who departed this life on May 23, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on April 17, 1932, in Hye, TX, to Edwin and Frances Triesch Deike, Roland lived a life defined by devotion-to his family, his faith, his country, and the things he loved most.
Roland proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, demonstrating unwavering courage and commitment. As a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Disabled American Veterans (DAV), he remained dedicated to supporting fellow service members throughout his life.
On April 10, 1965, Roland married the love of his life, Paula Daugherty, in LaGrange, TX. A member of St. James Lutheran Church, his faith was a cornerstone of his life.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Paula; four brothers, Alton Deike, Clinton Deike, Marvin "Fritz" Deike, and Adolf Deike; and two sisters, Helen Ruth Snyder and Victoria Hildebrand.
He is survived by his loving children and their spouses: Cynthia Mulhern of San Antonio, Rebecca & Wayne Fortin of San Antonio, and Roland & Laura Deike, Jr. of Cypress. His legacy lives on through his eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish his wisdom, laughter, and unwavering love. Roland is also survived by his siblings, Lawrence Deike of Fredericksburg and Dorothy Mae Jenschke of Harper, as well as his sister-in-law, Marlene (Mrs. Fritz) Deike of Fredericksburg.
A retired truck driver, Roland found joy in the simple pleasures of life-hunting, dancing, playing dominoes, caring for his goats, and sharing the bounty of his peach trees. He delighted in old Western movies, TV shows, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and Texas A&M football team.
Roland's life will be celebrated by those who loved him most. His pallbearers will be Duane Robertson, Del Robertson, Thomas Mulhern, Archie Jenschke, Collin Willcox, and Bill Ransleben. Honorary pallbearers include Robert Deike, Troy Deike, and Wayne Fortin.
May he rest in peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him, and may his memory live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
