Roland R. Lantagne, 79, of Newport, beloved husband of Jessie, passed away in White River Junction on Sunday, January 9, 2005.

He was born in Newport on December 7, 1925, the son of Clarence and Mathilda (Hupe) Lantagne. On December 14, 1968 he married the former Jessie Hunter, who survives him.

Roland served in the US Navy and was a veteran of WWII. He worked as an engineer for the Central Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening, socializing and playing cards.

He was a member of the American Legion Newport Post #21, and the VFW Alfred Pepin Post #798.

Besides his wife, Roland is survived by his children, Reginald Lantagne and his wife Tammi of Newport Center, Randy Roberts and his wife Ann of Center Barnstread, New Hampshire, Shanda Powers of Coventry, and Lynn Seguin of Derby, his grandchildren, Alexis Lantagne, Kevin Lantagne, Barbara Powers, Jesse Roberts, and Lee Sequin, his brothers, George and his wife Josephine of Newport, and Clarence and his wife Delores of Newport, his sisters, Jeannette Reed and her husband Bob of Newport, and Marguerite Demers and her husband John of Massachusetts, his sisters-in-law, Joyce Lantagne of Newport, and Esther Lantagne of Guildhall, Vermont, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Oliver, Joseph, and Aristide and by his sister, Cecile Gunter.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 12 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, Darling Hill Road, Newport, (formerly Sias Ave.) at 4:00 p.m. with the Rev. Yvon Royer officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:30 to 3:30 on Wednesday before the service. Spring interment will take place at St. Mary’s cemetery in Newport with full military honors.

Should friends desire, contributions in Roland’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
