Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care - Grand RapidsRomayne Katherine Althaus, age 70, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025 surrounded by family and friends. She was born on December 17, 1954 in Cadillac, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Norma (Saunders) Althaus; and her brother, Steven R. Althaus.
Romayne graduated from Grand Haven High School. She went on to Ferris State University for her Associate’s Degree, and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Art from Grand Valley State University. She worked at North Ottawa Community Hospital for over 40 years. She served as Treasurer for the Ladies Auxiliary of the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post No. 28 American Legion Auxiliary in Grand Haven, Michigan.
Romayne was a naturally gifted artist. She created beautiful stained glass pieces, mosaic stepping stones, Christmas ornaments, and painted rocks to be left in places for people to find. She loved spending time with her family, and remained close with her brother throughout his life. Her favorite memories were having her close friends, nieces, nephew, and great-niece over to visit. Romayne showed her love for others through her acts of service and searching for the perfect gifts.
Surviving are a great-niece Lucienne “Lucie” Wagoner; nieces Kara (Jay) Wagoner of Hudsonville, Michigan, and Chelsea (Kerra Norton) Fox of Santa Fe, New Mexico; nephew Wesley Althaus of Chicago, Illinois; sister-in-law Diane Althaus of Grand Haven, Michigan; and her “sister”, Barb Sepanik and family.
A celebration of Romayne’s life will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, November 22nd, 2025 at the American Legion Post No. 28, located at 700 S Harbor Drive, Grand Haven, Michigan 49417.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harbor Humane Society (https://harborhumane.org/donate/)).
