Romeo Sciarra, of Stoneham, passed away peacefully on Friday March 1, 2024. He was 97 years of age.

Romeo was born in Monteporzio Catone, Italy. He was the oldest of four children. Romeo's family owned a vineyard where grapes were harvested to make wine and olives to make olive oil. Fruit trees were abundant and thus began Romeo's lifelong love of any type of fruit. Having attended a seminary school since childhood, Romeo developed a strong faith that never waivered. He married Ida Castracane at St Peter's Basilica in Rome in 1955 then came to the United States. Ida passed away in 1967 leaving two young children whom Romeo raised with the help of family. In 1983, Romeo married Lea Parenti. He and Lea returned to Italy many times to visit family. After Lea passed away in 2002, Romeo developed a love of cooking and baking especially making his mother's favorite recipes which included homemade pasta, risotto, biscotti, pizzelles, and his famous rum cake. It brought him great joy to share his goodies with relatives, neighbors, and friends. No one ever left hungry or empty handed.

Romeo began his career as a printer at State Street Bank and continued until his retirement from Honeywell Corporation in 1992.

First and foremost, Romeo loved his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Family gatherings were treasured and he instilled in his family the tradition of holiday meals, special occasions, and Sunday dinners.  Everyone was always welcome and his home was filled with love, laughter, and the smell of home cooking. Romeo loved his home in York Beach, Maine. He never went to the beach but it was the place to go for barbecues, bocci, or frisbee.

Romeo is the beloved husband of the late Ida (Castracane) Sciarra and the late Lea (Parenti) Sciarra. He is the devoted father of Maria Kendricken and her husband John and Julius Sciarra and his wife Patricia. He is the cherished grandfather "Nonno" of Lisa Gates and her husband Justin, Daniel Kendricken and his wife Jamie, Christopher Sciarra, Matthew Sciarra and the late David Kendricken. Dear brother of Adelaide Sciarra and the late Rodolfo Sciarra and Bianca Sciarra Casale. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share memories with the family on Wednesday March 6th, 2024 from 8:30 am to 9:30 am in the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Romeo's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church 71 Central St. STONEHAM at 10 am.
