Gerardo "Jerry" Sciarra, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on November 14, 2025, at the Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, New York. Born on March 15, 1934, in Fondi, Italy, Gerardo's journey brought him to a life rich in love, laughter, and dedication to his family and community.
For over 30 years, Gerardo worked at Cornell Plantations, where he became well-known for his innovative spirit, particularly for creating the award-winning “Ugly Mix,” a unique initiative aimed at discouraging evergreen thieves during the holiday season. His passion for horticulture extended beyond his professional life; he cherished the hours spent tending to his garden, sharing an abundance of fresh vegetables with family and friends. Gerardo enjoyed interacting with everyone and would enthusiastically share his knowledge about gardening while forming lasting connections with those around him.
Gerardo’s service to his country in the Italian military, where he specialized in accounting, showcased his commitment not only to his profession but also to his community. He brought that same dedication to his personal life, immersing himself in family activities. Gerardo loved spending quality time with his family, always seeking to create special memories. He shared many weekends hunting with his son and friends, and local game nights playing cards with his close companions added laughter and camaraderie to his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Emma Sciarra; daughter Carmen Campagnolo and son-in-law Gino Campagnolo; son Sandro Sciarra and daughter-in-law Maria Sciarra; and his cherished grandchildren Katerina Campagnolo, Jessica Sciarra, Sandro Giovanni Sciarra, and Gianluca Sciarra. Gerardo's pride in his children and grandchildren was unmatched and served as one of his proudest accomplishments.
Gerardo was preceded in death by his father, Salvatore Sciarra, and his mother, Carmela Roccia Sciarra. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family.
A Mass in honor of Gerardo Sciarra will be held on November 21, 2025, at the Immaculate Conception Church located at 113 North Geneva Street in Ithaca, New York, starting at 10:00 AM.
As we remember Jerry, we celebrate a life filled with cherished moments, the warmth of family love, and the joy he brought into the lives of so many. His spirit will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
