Thomas Leo Obuck, 63, of Ithaca, New York, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, in his home.

Born in Elmira, New York on February 4, 1962, Tom graduated high school from Notre Dame and earned degrees from Corning Community College (Associates), Cornell (Bachelors), and Syracuse University (Masters in Social Work). He spent his career helping others as a social worker at Elizabeth Brewster House, Homer, NY. Tom loved gardening, his cats, going to auto expos, and especially, human rights activism.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Obuck. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann (Bill) Gerych, niece, Megan (Jake) Reinhardt, nephew, Billy (Rose Bradshaw) Gerych and great nieces, Ruby and Lucy Reinhardt.

Tom will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and his compassion for all. His dedication to others was an inspiration to everyone who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your local SPCA or Notre Dame High School, 1400 Maple Ave, Elmira, NY.

DUE TO UNFAVORABLE WEATHER SERVICES WILL NOT TAKE PLACE ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 25TH.Friends and family are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Thursday, January 29th from 11 am to 1 pm. His funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.

Tom was a kind and gentle soul. I worked for him at the Elizabeth Brewster House. He was a great boss. He was the Executive Director at the Elizabeth Brewster House. Prayers for you and your family.
