Susan Gilbert

Age 77, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Arnot-Ogden Medical Center. Born on December 8, 1948 in Waverly, NY; Susan was the daughter of the late, William W. and Lucille Kerwin Gilbert. Susan attended Notre Dame High School and graduated from SUNY Albany with a liberal arts degree and later graduated from Arnot-Ogden School of Nursing. She continued to work there in the ICU for many years and also at St. Joseph's Hospital ICU and before retiring worked at the Robert Packer Hospital in the telemetry unit. She became a registered nurse while serving in the U.S. Army also in the ICU. She loved every minute of her nursing career and the people she met along the way. She is survived by a daughter, Jenny Wray who she adored with Jenny's adoptive father, Greg Wray; a sister, Marylou Beyer along with her daughters, Susanne (Bill) Neidrich and Christine "Crissy" Beyer. She enjoyed taking 16 cruises, 8 trips to Europe and several train trips across the US and Canada. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway Elmira/Southport, NY 14904 on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11:15 a.m. and where military honors will be accorded Susan. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery.
