Romilda Joann Smith, lovingly known as Joann, age 84, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025. She was born at home on April 3, 1941, in a small four-room house in Pekin, Indiana.
Joann was the second of ten children-two girls and eight boys-born to Geneva and Joe Albertson. Whom of which she still referred to as mommy and daddy. Her childhood was filled with the sounds of laughter, love, and the values of faith and hard work that would shape the woman she became. Though her parents preceded her in death, the lessons they passed down continued to guide her throughout her life.
Joann was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie Glen Smith, and her son, Joe Junior Bonds. She is survived by her children: Lonnie T. Bonds, Jerry Clay Bonds, Kathy Denise White, Ricky Lynn Bonds, and Timothy Charles Bonds. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her 15 grandchildren and over 26 great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Joann wore many hats throughout her life-caregiver, painter, and cleaner among them. She did whatever was necessary to provide for her family, always with strength, determination, and grace. Her faith in God was her foundation, and she found great joy and comfort in attending church.
Joann had a deep love for music and spent many joyful days attending "sangs" (as she called them) with her late husband, Glen. Together, they played their "gitars" and sang from their heart. She also enjoyed Lifetime movies, crocheting, gardening, and cooking. Her home and kitchen was always open to anyone that needed it. As soon as you stepped into her home you was sure to be welcomed with a cold Pepsi and something to eat. She was kind like that, But fair warning-she had no patience for anyone "wallering" in her bed.
Her sense of humor, her hospitality, and the sound of her laughter will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
