Ron Behne Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sheckler Colonial Chapel - Nora Springs on Feb. 19, 2026.
Ronald Frank "Ron" Behne, 89, of Nora Springs, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye Ave, Nora Springs, Iowa, with Mark Doebel officiating. Burial will be held in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Family kindly requests that memorials be directed to Cornerstone Assisted Living, as they helped Ron be able to stay in his home this last month.

Ron was born on September 28, 1936, in Mason City, Iowa, to the parents of Carl and Marion (Bright) Behne. He grew up in Nora Springs, graduating from Nora Springs High School in 1954. He married his high school sweetheart, Janyce Paul, on February 10, 1957, at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City. Together they raised four children, Carrie, Dwayne, Rani, and Michael, and made their home on the Behne family farm outside Nora Springs.

Farming was Ron's life. It was not just his occupation but his passion, and he could talk about it almost around the clock. He took great pride in caring for the land and continuing the family tradition. In his younger years, Ron was an excellent marksman. He enjoyed trapshooting and was a member of the All Iowa Guard Rifle Team. He also cherished time spent outdoors with his family, especially on fishing trips and camping adventures that created lasting memories for everyone.

Ron deeply loved being a grandfather and treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren. He had a special place in his heart for animals, especially the pets he cared for over the years. Known for his resourcefulness, Ron rarely let anything go to waste and could build or repair just about anything. His strong work ethic, ingenuity, and love for his family defined the life he lived so well.

Those left to cherish memories of Ron are his daughters, Carrie (Michael) Brodersen of Manly and Rani Brummer of Wisconsin; his son Michael (Michelle) Behne of Nora Springs; his grandchildren, Lindsey (Jeni) Brodersen, Matt (Ashley) Brodersen, Megan (Cody) Lafler, Mark (Courtney) Brodersen, Tyler (Aria) Behne, Spencer (Amber) Behne, Ryan (Jennifer) Brummer, Holly (Brian) Porter, and Ethan Brummer; his 16 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Phyllis Albert; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Ron is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Janyce; son Dwayne in 1978; his parents, brother, Roger Behne; sisters, Phyllis Oeltjenbrun, and Betty Behne; son-in-law, Randy Brummer.
