Ron Knickerbocker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel of Capitol Hill on Feb. 26, 2026.
Ronald Eugene Knickerbocker, known to his family and friends as Ron passed from this life on February 15, 2026, at his home in Oklahoma City at the age of 79. He was born on November 17, 1946, in Salem, Illinois, to Robert Earl & Estelle Mae (Wegand) Knickerbocker.

Ron attended Stroud High School, graduating in 1964.

While working at Griffin Memorial Hospital, he met the love of his life Linda Ary and his lifelong friend George Calhoun who affectionately called him "Knick".

Ron and Linda were married September 23rd, 1968.

Ron chose computer programming as his career. He worked for various computer companies and retired from Arvest Bank in 2017.

Ron had many hobbies over his lifetime. He and Linda enjoyed square dancing. They were members of the Silver Spurs in Norman, Oklahoma, as well as other clubs from states that they formerly lived in.

Ron was also a ham radio operator and member of the amateur ham operator club in Norman. Through this he was a volunteer with REACT and was a storm spotter with them.

Making stained glass was one of his favorite hobbies that he enjoyed making with his wife, Linda and his daughter, Heather. When he was younger, he built and flew model remote-control airplanes with his brother-in-law DJ.

He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Ron was quiet and yet outgoing with people he was close to. His sarcastic whit was evidence that you were part of the family. He was a very kind man and touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ron leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Heather Knickerbocker, of Oklahoma City; grandson, Justin Wall, of Oklahoma City; sister, Barbara Pereira, of Bastrop, Texas; brother, Randy Knickerbocker, of Bastrop, Texas; honorary daughters, Jenny Shatley Paul & husband, John IV, of Norman, Kricia Phillips, of Harrah, and Julie LoPresti, of Norman; and other extended family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Estelle Knickerbocker; and his beloved wife Linda of 56 years.

Services to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 pm, on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2026, at Quest Church, located at 3650 36th Ave., NW in Norman, Oklahoma.
