Evelyn Helm Obituary
She was born in Wellston, OK on August 4, 1929, the daughter of Albert and Elsie (Belitz) Helm. She graduated from Wellston High School as valedictorian in 1947,
lettering in basketball for three years. She worked as secretary for the law firm of Keaton Wells Johnston & Lytle in Oklahoma City before earning her BS degree in
Business Education from UCO, (Central State back in the day), where she was listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. She taught at Fairfax High School
and Bartlesville Business College before starting her career with Phillips Petroleum Co., retiring in 1993 with 39 years of service, primarily as an analyst in Petrochemicals
Division and Division Order Analyst in GPM. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving in the Chancel choir, earlier as
a Deacon, the board of Trustees, and Treasurer of the church Foundation. She performed with the Ad-Lib Singers, was a volunteer water fitness instructor, served on
the board at Green Country Retirement Village, and volunteered for OK Mozart and the Community Center. She enjoyed traveling, singing, dancing and playing bridge. In her later years, she said she "lived to play bridge". Once moving to Norman, she easily made new friends at the assisted living center.
All the staff loved her beautiful smile and sweet personality. The family would like to thank each person from Arbor House Reminisce and Legacy Hospice that cared for her like family. They loved her, and she loved them! Survivors include two nieces, Bonnie Jo Schader of Norman, and Debbe Leftwich of
OKC, three nephews, Alan Helm of Frisco, TX, Darren Helm of Edmond, OK, and David McLain of Orem, UT, several cousins and great nieces and nephews, one great, great
niece, one great, great nephew, and one great, great, great niece. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters (Lorena Gardner and Betty McLain), two brothers (Roy and Everett), one niece (Lana Ebert), and sister-in-law (Bonnie Sue Helm).
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to First Presbyterian Church, Bartlesville, or
the charity of your choice.
