Martinsville resident, Ronald K. Asher, age 79, passed from his earthly life surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 10:30 PM at his residence. He was one of four children born to the late Melvin and Geneva Lucille (Cox) Asher. Ron was born in Martinsville, Indiana, on Friday, September 3, 1943.
Ron graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1961 and shortly thereafter he enlisted in the Indiana National Guard, serving from 1961-1965. In 1964, he gained employment with General Motors in Indianapolis. Ron was a dedicated employee for thirty-two years at G.M., working as a skilled tradesman and retiring in 1996. Though he enjoyed retirement, Ron quickly realized that he needed something to fill his time and he began driving a school bus for the MSD of Martinsville. He loved the children on his bus route and continued driving for twelve years, retiring a second time in 2009.
On March 24, 1984, he married the love of his life, Brenda Louise (Meadows) Asher. The two shared thirty-nine years of marriage and packed those years full of fond memories, laughter and love. He and Brenda traveled, fished, rode ATVs, and took pleasure in various other adventures together. They were also longtime members of the New Salem Church in Gosport.
He absolutely loved to be outdoors, collecting Hot Wheels, classic cars, especially his 1989 Ford Mustang, Indiana University Basketball and Cypress trees. Yes, he loved Cypress trees; so much so that he cultivated hundreds of them! Ron was a 'people person' who loved life and treasured his friends! He was known to be adventurous and somewhat of a daredevil.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends including his wife, Brenda Asher of Martinsville; three sons, Andy (wife, Jayne) Asher of Cloverdale, IN, Brad (wife, Debbie) Asher of Alabama and Danny (wife, Shani) Asher of Martinsville; two daughters, Kim (husband, Rodney) Ferran and Jessica (husband, Cory) Hostetter both of Martinsville; two brothers, Mike Asher of Martinsville, IN, and Bob (wife, Linda) Asher of Mooresville, IN; one sister, Nance Chitwood of Unionville, IN; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren and his beloved dog, Sassi.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, June 27th, 2023, from 12 Noon – 2:00 PM at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. A service celebrating Ron's life will follow the visitation and begin at 2:00 PM. In honoring his wishes, he will be cremated.
