Curtis Ryan Ward, age 51, of Mooresville, Indiana, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 5:45 p.m. at his parents' home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous 14-month battle with cancer. Though his illness tested his body, it never dimmed his spirit, sense of humor, or love for those closest to him.
He was born on Monday, May 6th, 1974, in Anderson, Indiana, to Edward Orren Ward Jr. and Mary Ann (Ratcliff) Ward. He spent his entire life in Morgan County and was a proud graduate of Martinsville High School with the Class of 1992. During his senior year, he earned the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout-an achievement that reflected his dedication, leadership, and strong moral character. He cherished the lifelong brotherhood of friends he formed throughout school and Scouting, bonds that remained strong his entire life.
For over 20 years, Curtis was a loyal and valued employee of Neovia Logistics in Plainfield.
Curtis had a brilliant imagination and adventurous soul. He was a passionate Dungeons & Dragons enthusiast and a devoted 25+ year attendee of Gen Con-his favorite annual tradition. To his family and friends, he was more than just a player; he was often the "Dungeon Master," crafting unforgettable campaigns and stories that brought people together. He especially treasured time spent playing D&D with his son, daughter, and nieces, sharing creativity, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
He also enjoyed board games, video games, and card games, especially Magic: The Gathering. When he wasn't gaming, Curtis could often be found vegetable gardening, creating beautiful woodworking projects with his dad, or enjoying a good movie. He was a gentle soul with a deep love for animals, especially cats and dogs-but none more than his beloved cat, Pixie.
Curtis is survived by his loving parents, Edward and Mary Ann Ward of Martinsville; his daughter, Ellie Ward of Mooresville; his son, Elias Ward of Mooresville; his sisters, Erin (Roy) McGuffey of Martinsville and Elaine Ward of Brooklyn; and two nieces, Gwen McGuffey of Martinsville and Amelia Ward of Bloomington.
Honoring his wishes, Curtis will be cremated. His family will host a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at a later date, and friends are invited to check back for service updates.
