Ronald Douglas Baxter, 76 of Midland, passed away on Thursday, March 6. A small service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, March 14, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.
Ron was born on March 4, 1949, in Lubbock, Texas, to Willis Wilborne ("Jr.") and Nina Louise Baxter. He grew up in Levelland, then Big Lake and finally Midland where he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1967. Ron married Celina in 1984 and settled in Midland. He was a self-described redneck, working long days out in the oil fields for his entire career. He drove almost every dirt road in and around the Midland-Odessa area as a Pumper and Foreman for nearly 40 years. He retired from Devon Energy in 2018. Ron enjoyed fishing, bowling, reading and was a Civil War, WWI and WWII history buff. He loved watching westerns, NASCAR and rooting for his Dallas Cowboys. Ron loved spending time with his family and playing cards with his grandchildren.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Celina; children Leticia Ramos (Ruben) and Cesar Hernandez (Jill); sister Gail Cambron (Van); nephews Chris and Brent Elliot and their families; and his beloved grandchildren Samantha, Jacob, Joshua, Isaac, Lucas, Ezra, Isaiah and Emilia.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Willis Wilborne Baxter Jr. and Nina Louise Baxter Smart.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards the caring staffs of Midland Memorial Hospital, Brookdale Midland and Heart to Heart Hospice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.
