It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald Stanton Blate, age 88, of Monroe, Louisiana.

Ron’s journey to Monroe began after a fateful blind date in Canton, Ohio, where he met the love of his life, Sandra Jo Doernberg. Following their meeting, Ron moved to Monroe in 1962 to marry Sandra and joined her family’s business, Krauss & Cahn/The Oxford Shop Men’s Store, which served the community for 82 years. Ron and Sandra were married for 62 wonderful years.

Ron is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra, and their loving family: son Don and his wife Beth, along with their children, Sam and Hannah; son Richard and his wife Shira, and their children, Abby and Joie; and son Kevin and his wife Amy all of Atlanta, GA. Along with Cousin Judy Fleischer Marx and husband Dr Don Marx of Monroe, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome A. Blate of Miami, Fl and his mother, Janet Erlanger Blate Altman of Canton, Ohio. He was also predeceased by his brother, Steve Blate, his wife Jeannine, and their son Mike, all of Canton, Ohio, as well as his brother Larry Blate of Tampa, Florida. His beloved in-laws, Babette and Stewart Doernberg of Monroe, Louisiana, and brother-in-law Dr. Hugh Lamensdorf of Fort Worth, Texas, also predeceased him.

Ron cherished the oak trees, warm weather, and blue skies of Monroe, where he loved to drive with the top down. His passion for the outdoors was cultivated growing up on a farm, with many childhood adventures including Philmont Boy Scout Camp, which carried into his adult life, where he enjoyed photography, running, scuba diving, swimming, and operating as a ham radio enthusiast, among many other activities.

A proud and longtime member of the Monroe Rotary Club, Ron served as President during the 2012–2013 year and participated in numerous local and regional events throughout his more than 50 years of membership. He often spoke with pride of his service in the U.S. Marine Corps and his enthusiastic support for his alma mater, the University of Miami of Ohio and his time at AT&T.

A private family burial ceremony will be held at the B’nai Israel Jewish Cemetery, followed by a 1:30 p.m. memorial service on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Temple B’nai Israel 2400 Orell Place, with a reception to follow. Please use the following website to view the service www.bayoujews.org and follow the prompts to Shabbat Services and click on the Live stream link.

Ron will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him.
