Ronald Hansen Brereton passed away after a brave battle with cancer on the morning of May 14th 2025. Ronald was an amazing example of what a husband and father should be. He was a provider, a leader, and a protector. He was so proud of his six children and all of his grandchildren. Ronald never met a problem or project that he could not conquer with persistence and skill.
On July 20th, 1956 he married Mary Louise Ence in the Manti Temple and was later divorced. They had four children; Jeffery, Jill, Joni and JaLyn.
He married his sweetheart Shirley Ann Ford on March 29th 1974, later they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. They had two children; Rebecca and Amy. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter.
Ronald was born on June 18th 1936 to Morris and Opal Brereton in Provo Utah. His mother held a special place in his heart. He fondly recalled stories of spending weeks worth of his allowance on special gifts for her. His father taught him the importance of a strong work ethic. Ronald was always working hard to support his family, whether it meant trucking fruit, installing water softeners, putting up power lines, or working at Geneva Steel.
Ronald loved the outdoors, he was an avid hunter, fisherman, and all around happy camper! He also had a deep love for his country! He served as a Sargent E-5 in the United States Army from 1956 to 1962. He proudly flew the stars and strips on the flagpole in his front yard and always made sure that he shared his love for his country with his children and grandchildren.
Ronald never passed up a chance to serve others. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During his life he has served the church in many callings. He particularly loved serving as a home teacher. His final calling, serving in the branch at Summerfield Manor, also held a special place in his heart.
Ronald is survived by his children; Joni Sayers (John), JaLyn Ward (Roger), Rebecca Taylor (Clayton), and Amy Anderson (Travis); daughter-in-law Patricia Dunn (Jeffrey); 13 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 9 step great-grandchildren; Sister Karen; and many special nieces and nephews who he greatly loved. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Ann Brereton (Ford); parents, Morris and Opal Brereton; brothers, Garn Brereton (Karma), Glade Brereton (Belva), Grant Brereton (Donna), and Norman Brereton; sisters, Maurine Pulley (Vern) and Sherlyn Smith (Richard); Children; Jeffery Ronald Brereton and Jill (David) Mihlberger; Grandchildren, Mckenna Helm and Landon Sayers.
