Ronald R. Brooks, Sr., 83, of Port St. Lucie, Florida and formerly of Morrisonville, N.Y., passed peacefully on July 14, 2024 with family at his side. Ron was born in Beaver Falls, PA, the son of Bernice Reed Brooks and Theodore S. Brooks.
He grew up in Beaver Falls, graduating from Beaver Falls High School in 1958. He graduated from Allegany College in Meadville, PA, and taught high school math in Ripley, N.Y. until 1964, when he entered the New York State Police. He enjoyed an eventful 25 year career with the Troopers, retiring in 1990 as the Troop Commander in Troop B, Ray Brook. After retirement from the State Police, Ron taught in the Criminal Justice Department at Clinton Community College and completed his Master's Degree. He was elected Town Justice in the Town of Plattsburgh, and served in that role until 1999. Not able to sit still, he later worked at Savannah Club, Harmony Golf Club and The Barracks golf courses.
In 1983, Ron and Myra Dupras were married in Plattsburgh, N.Y. They spent 41 years together travelling, cruising, and enjoying life with family and many friends. Myra was his rock and amazing caregiver in some difficult final years.
Ron is survived by his wife, Myra, sons Ron Brooks, Jr. (Audrey) of West Palm Beach, FL, and John Brooks (Molly) of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., stepdaughters Heather Hager of Elk Grove, CA, and Amy Huber (Glenn) of Peru, N.Y., grandchildren Chase Brooks, Evan Brooks, Amanda McCleary, Hannah Buerger, Emily James, Katie Adams, Tommy Adams, Allyson Huber, Nicholas Huber, and Maggie and Brian Doherty, and great grandchildren Arrow, Atlas, and Winifred.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Theodore Brooks, his sister Laura Brooks Hudson, and brothers-in-law Jack, Phil, David and Bill Dupras and sisters-in-law Tida and Marietta Dupras, with all of whom he was close.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at The Cove Clubhouse, Savannah Club, 3492 Crabapple Drive, Port St. Lucie, Florida, 34952.

I came across Ron´s obituary today when searching for my own dad´s (cousin Douglas Brooks, son of J. Douglas and Mildred) high school graduation year. They were the last two first cousins living, I believe, from the John H. and Laura D. Brooks family. Dad died in 2020, and I called Ron afterward and had a good conversation. He later sent me a thumb drive of his family pictures that I think Reed had helped him put together, although maybe it was John. I am very grateful for that. We always enjoyed the times Ron (& Donna) came to town with the boys. I remember swimming together in the Brooks Drive pool and a lot of laughter. We were in awe of Ron´s being a state policeman. We loved Uncle Ted and Aunt Bernice and always being welcomed at the hardware store. Many blessings, Myra, Reed, John, and families. Thank you for caring so well for him at the end. I´m sure it´s hard celebrating this first Christmas season without him.
