Ronald Vincent Carter Sr., known affectionately by many as "Captain Ron," passed away on October 23rd, 2025 at the age of 72 in Grover Beach, California.
Born in Oakland, California, Ron lived a life marked by service, generosity, and a deep love for the people around him. He proudly served in the United States Army, working in logistics, and later became well known in the San Luis Obispo community as the Seafood Manager at Vons, where he worked for ten years. His customers loved him for his warmth, charm, and the easy smile he greeted everyone with. "Captain Ron" was more than a nickname; it was a reflection of the way he led with kindness and good humor.
Ron believed friendship was just another word for family. If he cared about you, he made sure you felt it. One of his favorite sayings was, "If you need it and I have it, you got it. I might not have it, but if I did, I'd give it to you." That generosity defined him. He loved fishing, golfing, tending to his plants with his well-known green thumb, and cheering on the Raiders. Animals gravitated toward him, and he had a gentle way with them that matched the compassion he showed to everyone.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Susan Carter; his sons Ron Carter Jr. and John Charles Carter; and his four grandchildren Nigen, Alivia, Aria, and Vincent who brought him tremendous joy. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Iren Carter, and his older brother, Reggie Carter.
A service honoring Ron's life was held on November 8th. Those who wish to send flowers in his memory may contact his wife, Susan, directly or arrange for delivery through Lady Family Mortuary.
Ron's legacy lives on in the kindness he poured into others, the laughter he shared, and the love he never hesitated to give. He was a good man, steady, generous, and deeply loved. He will be missed more than words can say.
