Ronald Edgar Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 19, 2026.
Ronald King Edgar, affectionately known as "Poppy" to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, in Utica, NY, at the age of 94. Born on September 14, 1931, in Hammond, NY, Ronald lived a full life characterized by service, hard work, and a warm, affable nature that endeared him to many. Per Ron's request no service or calling hours, a graveside service will be held in the spring at the Edwardsville Cemetery.

Ron's early years were spent in the close-knit community of Hammond, where he attended Hammond Central School. His education there laid a strong foundation for his future endeavors. After completing his studies, he honorably served his country in the Air Force, a period of his life that instilled in him a deep sense of duty and patriotism.

Following his military service, Ronald embarked on a successful career that saw him working for 42 years at General Electric / Lockheed Martin while living in Prospect, New York. His astute mind and hands-on skills made him a valuable asset to his teams. In addition to his professional life, Ron was an entrepreneur at heart. He owned and operated Edgar's Happy Fisherman, a beloved campsite on Black Lake, where he shared his love for the outdoors with countless visitors over the years.

Ronald was predeceased by his loving wife, Geraldine House Edgar, his son, Mark Edgar; his brothers, Ross, Donald, and Richard Edgar; his sisters, Muriel Knowlton and Helene Pond.

He is survived by a legacy of family who will cherish his memory: his children, Ross Edgar, Laurie and Steve Mitchell, Pat Edgar, Ronda and Ross LaQuay, Mike Edgar, and Eric Edgar. Also, his grandchildren, Ronald and Faith Mitchell, and his great-granddaughter, Esme Poppy Mitchell, along with Krista and Massimo Gioffre, Chris Laquay, Nick and Tessa Laquay, Larissa Mitchell, Vaughn Edgar, and Kiara Edgar.

Ron will be remembered as a friendly and handy man who always had a smile to offer and the skills to fix anything that needed repair. His warm demeanor and helpful nature were constant throughout his life, touching the hearts of those around him and creating lasting friendships.

Ron Edgar's story is one of a life well-lived, marked by love, commitment, and a joyful spirit that will continue to live on in the memories of his family and all who knew him. As we say farewell to Poppy, we take comfort in knowing that his was a life filled with purpose, laughter, and an abundance of love.
