Charles Wayne Edgar, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, in
Phenix City, Alabama, at the age of 74. Born on January 18, 1952, in
Opp, Alabama, to LD Edgar and Grace (Phillips) Edgar, Charles's life was one of service, love, and simple pleasures.
Charles proudly served his country as a Marine during the Vietnam War, embodying the courage and dedication that would define his character throughout his life. After his military service, he embarked on a career as a truck driver for 28 years, where he became a respected member of the Green Bush, Hornady, Southern AG and Wabash teams. His work ethic and reliability made him a valued employee and a trusted friend on the open roads.
At home, Charles was the cornerstone of his family. His love story with Christine Ann (Mitchell) Edgar spanned over 40 years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with joy, raising their children, Nathan Johnson (Crystal), Jodi Edgar, and Brian Johnson (Scout), in a home that was always welcoming. Charles was a beloved brother to Mike Edgar, Peggy Walls, Patsy Levizke, and Dianne Johnson. He was a central figure in the lives of his eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and strength.
An avid Alabama football fan, Charles found joy in the thrill of the game and the camaraderie it brought. He had a passion for the great outdoors, often going camping with Christine in their earlier years and spending countless hours fishing. His garden was a testament to his patience and care, especially known for his prized tomato batch.
Music was another of Charles's great loves, with the sounds of George Jones, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams Jr., Conway Twitty, and Elvis often filling his home. His favorite song, "Old Violin," could stir his soul and bring a smile to his face. Mornings would find him on his front porch swing, savoring his coffee and the quiet moments of dawn.
Charles's presence was a comfort to all, especially his grandchildren, with whom he shared his love of football and life's simple pleasures. Those cherished moments on the front porch, watching the world go by, will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Joe Edgar and Becky Kurgern, whose memories he held close to his heart. Charles's life was a tapestry of enduring relationships, marked by the countless cousins, nieces, and nephews who were touched by his generosity and warmth.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate the life of Charles Wayne Edgar will be held at Blue Spring Cemetery in
Opp, Alabama, on March 21, 2026, where he will be laid to rest. The time of the service will be announced, inviting all who loved him to come together and pay tribute to a man whose life was as rich and fulfilling as the soil he so tenderly nurtured.
As we say farewell to Charles, we remember a man whose strength was matched only by his compassion.
