Obituary
Ronald Lawrence Fletcher, was born on March 6, 1963–an anniversary gift for his parents Bill and Sadie. The second, of soon-to-be three boys that the couple would raise, Ronald was quite a character and had an incredible sense of humor, which allowed him to be loved by so many and touch the lives of others in a positive way.
Ronnie, as he was affectionately known by his many friends, grew up in Columbia, MD. When he was young, he played football with the COBRA league. He spent summers at the Longfellow pool-sometimes when the pool wasn't actually open! He attended Centennial High School, where he excelled in wrestling and cross country, and he was a state champion wrestler who loved to put his opponents in a "banana split."
Ron followed in his father's footsteps and served in the U.S. Army. He also attended Morgan State University, and in the fall of 1983, he joined the Alpha Iota chapter of the distinguished Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
After college, Ronald became a CPA and moved to Atlanta, GA. Eventually, he moved back to Maryland and became a father to his two children, Olivia and Dominic. He also switched careers and got into the mortgage industry, and worked for several years for AmeriSave Mortgage. He was an avid golfer, and loved to get in a round or two whenever he had time.
Ron's passion for wrestling led him to become a head coach for Howard County's recreational league team Wilde Lake for many years. He then went on to coach wrestling at Centenntial High School where you he graduated many years earlier. You can even find his name in the school hall of fame which he received in 2014.
In 2015, Ron moved back to Atlanta for seven years, then again returned to Columbia in 2022 to be closer to his family and friends.
On the morning of September 20, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with cancer, Ron passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was constantly surrounded by loved ones in the weeks leading up to his passing.
Ronald was preceded in death by his father, Bill (2005), older brother, Reggie (2004), and sister Sybil (2022).
Ronald leaves behind the following to cherish his memory: his loving and caring children, Olivia and Dominic; his mother, Sadie; brother, Rick (Melony); sisters: Gail, Priscilla, and Mimi (Rob); nieces: Toshia, Fonta, Faith, Ariana, Paris, Leesa, Leyah, and Alyssa, nephews: Lucius, Robert II (Alicia), Jordan, and Ricco; Aunt, Lula; a host of cousins and great nieces and nephews; mother of his children, Dawn; brother-by-choice, Ted; brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi, F83 Alpha Iota Chapter; and, many kind and compassionate friends.

My heart is broken....Ron and I were fierce opponents in Words With Friends for 12+ years. His sarcasm knew no bounds I was a mortgage underwriter and he would bounce scenarios off me. He shared his move to Georgia with me and his change in career; he also shared his battle with cancer and was so supportive when I had my own battle with this horrible disease. Though I never met him, I was so happy when he moved back to Maryland. He last played WWF with me about a month ago and I have been dreading checking for his obituary - I will miss him for the rest of my life. RIP my WEF friend. Your battle is over

Ronnie Fletcher! You always brought a smile to my face with your wonderful sense of humor from our first days together in elementary school, to seeing you as a dad at church with your beautiful children. Your kind heart was a blessing on this earth. I'll see you in heaven, my friend. The whole Longfellow Sterrett Family sends our deepest condolences to the Fletcher family. -- Kim Michelle "Mikki" Sterrett

My sincere condolences to the Fletcher family and friends.

When I think of Ron his smile, robust laughter and easy going nature come to mind. I met Ron on my first day of work at AmeriSave walking into the building. He talked like we were old friends and acted as if he were the ambassador for the company and escorted me to the receptionist's desk. We were fast friends after that. He always had time to lend an ear, offer encouragement and go to happy hour. Ron loved socializing and would invite himself to any and every event. He was always welcomed because his good nature, energy and laughter brightened the room. He will be sorely missed.

Rest in peace my friend.

Ron Co-coached the Wilde lake wrestling team back in 2006 -07. He was very technical teaching the boys how to wrestle. Ron Taught the fundamentals of wrestling to these young men and boys. My son, Ben learned so much from Ron. Ben and Dominic ended up having a great friendship back then.
Thank you friend, for so many unforgettable times with our families together. Those were Good times!!
I pray for peace over your family Ron. Especially Olivia and Dominic.
My heart goes out to them.

Always remember the sarcasm and BS. He loved being out on the golf course. Never afraid to voice an opinion. My condolences to his family.
