Ronald Wayne Gloyd, affectionately known as Ron to his friends and family, was a man whose laughter and love echoed resonantly through the lives of all who knew him. Born on October 21, 1957, in the desert city of El Paso, Texas, Ron stepped into eternity just one day before what would have been his 68th birthday, on October 20, 2025, in Austin, Texas. There, amidst the rolling hills and bluebonnets, Ron's final chapter peacefully concluded, surrounded by the love of his life and family.
Ron, a proud graduate of Cooper High School in Abilene, Texas, parlayed his passion for justice and community service into a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Midwestern State University, Waco, Texas. His commitment to public service shone brightly throughout a distinguished career in law enforcement, first as a police officer with Snyder Police Department, then nobly serving at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice OIG, and finally safeguarding lives at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. Along each step of his professional journey, Ron's integrity, dedication, and infectious sense of humor left indelible marks on his colleagues and those he swore to protect.
At home, Ron's loving heart was never more apparent. He was a cherished husband to Geverna; a guiding light to his siblings, Ramona and Russell; and a hero to his children Christopher, Travis, Michelle, Stormy, and Carrie. Each day, he embodied the essence of an "Outstanding Husband, father, colleague, mentor, and darn good friend." His Christian faith was the bedrock of his life, a source of strength that he shared generously with all through both deeds and laughter.
Ron's zest for life extended to the great outdoors-hunting, fishing, and working on his tractor with Leo shadowing his every move, were pastimes where he found joy and peace. Indoors, his love for watching Westerns was only matched by the witty one-liners he'd draw from them, often joking, "I have a strict gun policy. If there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it," echoing the humorous yet poignant words of Clint Eastwood. He also often resonated with the line of John Wayne, "We're burning daylight!".
Described by those who knew him best as intelligent, loving, and funny, Ron was the sort of person who believed that life's trials were best met with a grin and a wise crack. His laugh was like a beacon in the night, piercing through the shadows of difficulty with the warm light of joy. Ron's ability to find the humor in life's daily challenges was a gift to all who crossed his path, a testament to his undying spirit of optimism and faith.
Ron's legacy is a tapestry woven with chuckles and benevolent acts, a narrative of a life abundantly lived and shared. As he takes his final bow on the earthly stage, we remember Ron Gloyd, a man who embraced each day as a blessing, a man who loved unconditionally, and a man who brightened the world with every encounter. His bell-like laughter and grin may have dimmed in our realm, but the heavens surely shine brighter for his presence. Ron, you leave us rich in memories, laughter, and love; your spirit is our beacon, lighting the way until we meet again.
