Ronald Scott Griffin was born in Statesboro, Georgia on March 5, 1953 to Elnora and Hollis Griffin. He passed away with his family by his side on May 3, 2025.
His family moved to Niceville in 1957 and he attended Edge Elementary, Ruckel Jr. High and was a proud member of the Niceville High School Class of 1971. He is survived by his father, Hollis
Griffin; wife, Dood; children, Sara Griffin, Phil Davis Griffin (Erin), Shelby Griffin (Gavin) and stepchildren Lindsay Wood Jackson (CJ) and Kyle Wood (Caitie). Ron always smiled when he bragged
about his 10 grandchildren. His brother, Frank Griffin and sisters Ellen Griffin, Fay Griffin Harrison and Linda Griffin Swenson, survives him. Ronald had many cousins, nieces and nephews that
he was very fond of. He also leaves behind over 60 years of friends from our great community. His mother and first wife Donna predecease Ronald.
Ronald enjoyed a lifelong career in construction. Prior to owning his own company, he worked for several construction companies as a project manager. Twenty- five years ago he established his own business, ABW- A Better Way. Ron was a pioneer in our area for building with ICF- Insulated Concrete Forms- a method for pouring concrete walls and foundations. He was a participant in the Northwest Florida Building Association Home shows providing information to the public on the use of insulated concrete forms. He was a "Fix It" man! He could reassemble, rebuild and reconstruct anything. He loved helping those who were not "construction minded" with their projects. His mind did not stop; as he was building even while in the hospital.
Ronald enjoyed a lifetime of adventures. He was an avid motorcycle rider from an early age. Several times he experienced the life of bike racer by participating in track days at Jennings and Barber tracks. He and Frank rode their sport bikes to Nova Scotia while camping each night. He liked to travel (bike or car), hike, and camp. He loved the outdoors. Earlier in life, he loved to skydive. Ron learned early in life about firearm safety, and he enjoyed skeet and target shooting at his family's farm.
Ronald was a voracious reader and he promoted love of reading to his grands. He was always proud that as a devoted single father raising Sara, he was able to take her to a bookstore once a month for her to buy books.
After Ronald's 2012 diagnosis with Small Cell Lung Cancer, he endured years of treatments. He became the Sacred Heart Oncology Cheerleader by giving others words of encouragement. A forever thank you to Dr. Mose Hayes for giving him 13 years of life. His final months were not spent battling this dreadful disease.
Ron's legacy is one of skillful craftsmanship, adventurous pursuits, and an endearing love of family. He brightened the lives of those around him.
Ron supported Dood's volunteer work with Twin Cities Wreaths Across America. In lieu of flowers consider sponsoring a wreath at Heritage Gardens or Sunset Cemetery to honor a veteran for National Remembrance Day 2025.
