Ronald Hagar Obituary

Ronald Allen Hagar

Lebanon, NH - Ronald Hagar, age 75, died on February 9, 2026, at the Jack Byrne Center, surrounded by family. He was born on March 4, 1950, and was the eldest of five children born to Justin and Geraldine Hagar of Weymouth, Massachusetts.

He was preceded in life by his parents and is survived by his siblings, Kenneth Hagar and his wife Jeanne, Doug Hagar and his wife Linda, Susan Dresser and her husband Jim, Janice Longendorfer and her husband David, and several nieces and nephews.

Ron moved to the Upper Valley in 1971 when he met his first wife, Diane (Clough) Hagar. They were married that same year. He and Diane went on to have two children, Sandee and Belinda. Ron is survived by his girls, Sandee Shipley and Belinda Peavey (Ty Peavey). He was a proud grandfather to Elizabeth Shipley, Kylie Peavey, Madison Peavey, Matthew Shipley, Cooper Peavey, and Brenee Shipley. He was also a great-grandfather to Clayton Fogg.

Ron dedicated his life to military service and to supporting veterans. He began his career in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as a combat engineer in Vietnam. He later transferred to the United States Army, continuing his service with distinction until his retirement as a Sergeant First Class in 1992. His military career was a source of deep pride, purpose, and identity. Ron's strong sense of duty was his north star throughout his life.

Following active duty, Ron remained steadfastly committed to veteran organizations and programs. He was an active and devoted member of the American Legion, where he served multiple terms as post commander. He was also a longtime member of the Forty and Eight, through which he traveled extensively, formed lasting friendships, and embraced opportunities to connect with fellow veterans and communities across the country. These experiences enriched his life and reinforced his lifelong commitment to service, camaraderie, and patriotism.

Those who knew Ron knew a man shaped by service, discipline, and loyalty. His dedication to the military and to veterans was not simply a career but a lifelong calling that brought him meaning, connection, and fulfillment. He will be remembered for his commitment to those he served alongside, his devotion to veteran communities, and the enduring sense of duty that defined his life.
