Ronald Carl Halberg

Ronald Carl Halberg, age 74, of St. Ignace, Michigan, died on March 12, 2025. He was born on September 15, 1950, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to John Raymond and Rita Margaret (Rapin) Halberg.
Ron grew up in St. Ignace and graduated from Lasalle High School. He continued his education at Lake Superior State University and Michigan Tech University, achieving a bachelor's degree in history. After graduating, Ron became a member of the Seafarers International Union and worked 40+ years with Arnold Transit Company (A.T.CO) as a purser, retiring in 2015. While working for Arnold Line, Ron had met his beloved wife, Pauline Cadotte and they married April 3, 1986, in St. Ignace.
Ron was an avid collector of coins and old newspapers, He was also fluent in French, a huge history buff and enjoyed politics. Ron was also a frequent flier at the local casino, and he loved watching sci-fi television, especially Star Trek.
Ronald is survived by his brother, Ray (Carol) Halberg of St. Ignace; children, Raymond (Carol) Halberg of St. Ignace, and their children, Nicholas Halberg, Kaitlyn Halberg, Cooper (Paula) Farr and Mackenzie Farr, Tammy (Joe) Insko of Michigan, and their children Chris (Alisha) Insko & Nicole Insko; Kevin (Valerie) Wilkins of Davison, and their children, Jake, Zak Wilkins, Quaid Wilkins, Gracie Wilkins, Aaron (Donna Osborn) Wilkins of Sault Ste Marie, Jessica (Michael) Osborn, Joseph Wilkins; Christine Sutter; of St. Ignace and her child, Christian Sutter Jr., Family of the late Allen Green of St. Ignace, his children, Samantha Green, Sara (Ted) Olson, Allen "Buddy" Green, Glenda (Blake) Loebach, Lois Green of Goetzville, and her children,Jesse Green, Mathew Green, Amanda Hokenson, David Hokenson, Robert Green, Ashley (Travis) Connor, Brandon Kiczenski, Nathan Kiczenski; Family of the late Sonya (David) Sayles of St. Ignace, their children, James (Chelsea) Sayles, David Sayles Jr., Kollin Sayles Bird, Daniel (Tracy) Green of Watersmeet, and their children, Donivan Green, Shayna Green, Allison Green, Daniel Green Jr, Patty Mcgeshick, Jordan Mcgeshick & Tyra Mcgeshick, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and a growing number of great-grandchildren.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rita Halberg; wife, Pauline Halberg; brother, Terry Halberg; step-children, Allen Green, Sam Green, Sonya & David Sayles; and first love, Pheobee Cadotte.
A Memorial Gathering will be on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Family Life Funeral Homes, 999 S. State St., St. Ignace, MI 49781, from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. The Memorial Service will start at 2:00 PM and a luncheon will immediately follow ending at 4:00 PM.
