Walter Halberg

Walter Halberg, 87, formerly of Orlando, FL, Springfield and Havertown, PA, and most recently a resident of Media, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2026. Walter, born on May 5, 1938, in Pennsylvania, was the beloved son of the late Knud and Ella Halberg of Havertown, PA.
After graduating from Haverford High School, where he was class valedictorian, Walter continued his education at Tufts University, earning a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Summa Cum Laude, while training in the Navy ROTC. Upon graduation he served two years at the Philadelphia Naval Yard.
Walter was previously married to his late first wife, Anne, the devoted mother of his three children who passed away in 1987. He later married his late wife Bette while living in Orlando.
He went on to enjoy a distinguished career as a Mechanical Engineer in the steam turbine division, working for General Electric, Boeing and Westinghouse. While building his career and raising a family, Walter continued his education and proudly earned his master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Walter, known affectionately as "Walt," had many interests and took great joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved sailing, bike rides with his children, meticulously caring for his lawn and spending relaxing hours working on his cherished model railroad houses and trains. He enjoyed watching sports, collecting stamps and especially treasured summer family vacations spent visiting his brother Paul and family. Walt also spent time at Church and singing in the Choir, while his late wife Bette played the organ.
Walter is survived by his loving children, Caroline Kuhfuss (Bob), Susan Faramelli (Steve), and Stephen Halberg (Kristi) and his stepson, Anthony Grund (Vanessa). He was a proud grandfather to Megan Kuhfuss-Golrick (Kyle), Erik Halberg, Daniel Halberg, Callie Kuhfuss, Andrew Halberg (Sophie) and Samantha Faramelli and a devoted great-grandfather to Kieran Golrick. He is also survived by his brother, Paul Halberg. Walt was pre-deceased by his late wife Bette in 2023.
Friends are invited to call on Friday, January 9, in the auditorium at
Granite Farms Estates,
1343 W. Baltimore Ave., Media, PA, where a memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m.
A visit to Walter's train room within the Granite Farms complex will follow the service.
Interment will be private.
