Wendy Thomas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cavanagh-Patterson Family Funeral Home - Media on Feb. 16, 2026.
Wendy, who was born on January 11, 1942, in Islip, New York, to Mimi and Charlie Plumb, died from complications of pneumonia at Riddle Hospital in Media, Pennsylvania on Friday, February 6.

Raised on Long Island, she carried her love of the outdoors and the water throughout her life. She lived in Southern Africa for 15 years, guiding her children through a nomadic upbringing, and later settled in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Born into a prominent horse family, Wendy was fearless and determined. She was known for scaling large jumps and breaking difficult horses. She understood that life was challenging but always had the grit to face it - whether confronting physical setbacks, complex relationships, or new terrain.

After leaving life in the barn on Long Island she moved with her family to the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa and later to Zimbabwe then to Johannesburg, South Africa before moving back to the United States to settle in Chester County, Pennsylvania, where her parents had moved from Long Island.

She taught preschool and horse riding and later built a career as a real estate agent. She was active and energetic, playing squash, running, lifting weights, yoga and creating art. She loved animals, the outdoors, and good conversation - especially over a delicious seafood meal and glass of Chardonnay. Curious about herself, she took classes at a psychoanalytic institute. She had a sharp wit, a contagious smile, and a natural warmth that drew people in.

Wendy was a devoted mother to Timothy and Lisa Thomas and remained a steady presence in their lives. Her granddaughter, Tully Thomas, brought her infinite joy. She is also survived by her former husband David Thomas and her brother Michael Plumb. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mimi and Charlie Plumb, and her brother Peter Plumb. She is also survived by her cat, Pesto, who has been settled in a loving home.
