Ron Halverson, age 76, of Ridgeway, Iowa passed away on November 3, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Ronald Allen Halverson was born on June 28, 1949, to Sidney and Bernice "Betty" (Schultz) Halverson in Decorah, Iowa. He attended grade school in Ridgeway and graduated from Cresco High School with the Class of 1967.
On April 3, 1970, he married Colleen Vatland at the Garness Trinity Lutheran Church in Mabel Minnesota. The couple began their life together in the Ridgeway area. In 1985 they were blessed with a son, Brady. From a young age Brady spent as much time as possible with Ron. He was often found riding in the milk truck, tractor cab or going for a ride in the pickup.
Ron enjoyed farming, and throughout his life raised both crops and livestock. He was a John Deere man and even spent time in the tractor this fall. Ron's working career also included several years with Holland Brothers, Winn-Coop, Alum Line and later JB Holland. But for 26 years he had a milk route, hauling for Wisconsin Dairy and later Foremost Farms. The children on the milk route knew Ron always had tootsie rolls to share.
When it was time to relax a nice trip to the lake was good for the soul. For the last 50 years Ron enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family on Woman Lake. He was able to spend several weeks this summer and fall relaxing on the deck and watching the lake activities. Even if he couldn't participate, he had a beautiful view and was surrounded by those he loved.
Ron enjoyed Ranger rides, tooling around the farm on the Gator, watching the tractor parade during Mabel's annual Steam Engine Days, an occasional lottery ticket and his precious 1970 Buick Grand Sport car. His companion Buddy was not only Ron's dog but was also his protector.
Ron loved the Ridgeway community and was a committed member of the Ridgeway Fire Department for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sid and Betty, father in-law Carl Vatland and mother in-law Lorriane (Wayne) Harkness.
Colleen and Brady would like to extend a special thank you to Ronnie's sister Norma (Kenny) and his brother Jim (Deb) for all their help, food and numerous visits, along with the families of Carrie, Neal and Jenna. Thank you to Naydene (Keith), Troy, Tracy, Travis, Trent and their families for staying with Ronnie when we needed to run errands or have a break. And to John and Carol for being such wonderful friends and always there when we needed help. A sincere thank you to Howard for all the times you stopped to visit with Ron over the years. We can't thank you all enough.
