Wilma Mohs, age 95, of Cresco, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the Cresco Assisted Living, where she had been a resident since June 2025.
Wilma Elizabeth Mohs was born on January 7, 1930, in a house north of Lime Springs, Iowa. She was the daughter of William Arnold and Nellie Mae (Wilmot) Mohs.
She attended rural country school at Howard Center #5. She attended Cresco High School and graduated on May 27, 1947.
She worked at Davis Super Market. In July 1950 she was hired as the Deputy Howard County Auditor. In July 1970 she accepted the position of Howard County Auditor. Wilma retired in 1991, after serving 41 years.
Wilma was a member of the Cresco United Methodist Church. She enjoyed participating in the Women's Circle and assisted with many church activities.
Wilma was active in many community organizations. She was a member of the Cresco Legion Auxiliary Post 135, Country Winds Manor Auxiliary and Regional Health Auxiliary. Wilma was an avid bowler; she belonged to the National Bowling Association, state, local and traveling bowling leagues, Queen Pin and Princess Pin. She also bowled in many state and local tournaments over the years. She was a member of the Cresco Saddle Club and assisted as secretary and treasurer. Wilma also enjoyed helping at the Meal Site.
Survivors include five nieces: Judy Stockand, Barb Mohs, Deb Hebrink, Kim (Robert) Freerksen and Connie Ripley, brother in-law Rodney Hebrink, several great-nieces and nephews and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald (Bernice) Mohs and a sister Donna Mae Hebrink.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Schmelzer Funeral Home (formerly Lindstrom) in Cresco. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services, beginning at noon. Burial will take place at the New Oregon Cemetery in rural Cresco.
