Ronald M. Haselhorst

A Memorial Mass for Ronald "Ron" Melvin Haselhorst, age 77, of Norfolk, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk. Reverend Brian Hula will be celebrant.

Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1644, American Legion Post 16, and Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue, in Norfolk, with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service.

Home for Funerals in Norfolk is in charge of arrangements.

Ron passed away peacefully at his home under hospice care on Saturday, March 14, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

Ron was born on November 30, 1948, in Lynch, NE, to M.J. and Dorothy Haselhorst. In 1968, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army and served two tours in Vietnam, demonstrating courage and dedication to his country.

Ron was a hardworking and entrepreneurial man who spent much of his life self-employed. He owned and operated RMH Construction and The Boys Lawn Service, building not only successful businesses but also lasting relationships throughout the community.

On September 2, 1972, Ron married the love of his life, Janet Welch, who later became Janet Haselhorst. Together they built a life centered around faith, family, and unwavering support for one another.

Ron was a proud father and grandfather and loved sharing stories about his family.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet Haselhorst; and their five children: Roy (Racheal) Haselhorst and their children Sierra and Bailey; Ray (Jistina) Haselhorst and their children Teaghan, Kannon, and Irelynn; Tara (Steve) Hoffman and their son Harlan; Corice (Eric) Rakowsky and their children Noah and Cam; and Ross (Jenny) Haselhorst and their children Maddy and Easton.

He is also survived by his siblings, Kathy and Bill Addison, Roger and Debbie Haselhorst, Karen Haselhorst, Rodney Haselhorst, and Keli Bright.

He was preceded in death by his parents, M.J. and Dorothy Haselhorst; and his brother-in-law, Vern Bright.

Ron remained deeply connected to the veteran community throughout his life. He served as the Commander of DAV Chapter 8 and was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a true patriot who loved his country and cherished the freedoms he defended.

Ron was a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose life revolved around the people he loved most. He enjoyed watching old western movies and loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He kept up with current events on Fox News and enjoyed listening to music on his beloved iHeartRadio.

He loved to read, learn, and share his knowledge by reciting historical facts and stories. He especially enjoyed traveling, with many memorable trips to Branson where he spent time with his Vietnam War buddies.

Despite living with diabetes for most of his adult life, Ron's love for sunflower seeds and candy was well known and unmatched. His strong faith, humor, and devotion to family were evident to all who knew him.

Ron passed away at his home surrounded by his family's love. His unwavering faith, patriotic spirit, and joyful presence will be remembered by all who knew him. He leaves a legacy of love, courage, and pride in family that will live on through his children and ten grandchildren, who will forever carry his stories, lessons, and laughter in their hearts.
