It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald Bruce Irwin announce his passing. Ron passed
away at his residence in Spanish Springs on April 3, 2025.
Ron was born on August 21, 1939 at Washoe General Hospital, Reno, NV to John Bruce Irwin
and Maurine Killgore Irwin.
Ron grew up on F Street in Sparks. He went to Robert Mitchell Elementary School, Sparks
Intermediate School and graduated from Sparks High School in 1958.
Ron's dad, John, was a fireman for the City of Sparks. The fire department was located on C
Street in Sparks, just a few blocks from their family home. This is when his love and obsession
started for the Sparks Fire Department. He would race to the fire department when the alarm
would sound and spend his days there trying to be helpful and sometimes, they would chase
him off when he was in the way.
Ron began his career with the Sparks Fire Department in 1962. When he wasn't on duty, he
worked at Harry's Business Machines repairing typewriters and office equipment. He worked
his way up the ladder and in 1990, he became the City of Sparks 7th Fire Chief.
After 42 years dedicated years to the City of Sparks Fire Department, 10 of which he was Fire
Chief, he decided it was time to retire.
Ron and his wife, Dianna loved to golf and were both avid hunters. They enjoyed many years of
camping in Clio, California and Likely, California. Side by side they built a beautiful home and
yard where they enjoyed gardening. For years, Ron was part of the Virginia City Muster Group.
He participated in the muster events with Dianna cheering him on. He was a beloved son,
husband, father, papa, fireman/fire chief and friend. He will forever be in our hearts.
Ron is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Dianna, his daughters Rhonda Ferguson
(Roger), Holly Irwin, Carrie Huls, (Jon), Tina Hamlin, Terri Maloy (Joe), 9 grandchildren and 4
great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held on April 17, 2025 at 11am.
Mountain View Mortuary, 425 Stoker Avenue, Reno, Nevada.
