Ron Knorr, age 82, of Clermont, Florida, passed away on October 25, 2025. Born on August 18, 1943, in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, Ron devoted his life to family, service, and education.
Ron earned a Bachelor of Science in Math Education from East Stroudsburg University, a Master of Education from West Chester University, and a Master of Science in Mathematics from Oregon State. He impacted generations as a public-school teacher for over 30 years and continued his passion for mathematics by teaching in local community colleges, including Cecil College during his early retirement. He was active in organizations including the NEA, NCTM, and the Marple Newtown negotiating committee, always striving to improve education and support his colleagues.
Ron believed in giving back to his community and dedicated much of his time to service. He volunteered with the Appalachia Service Project, Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts, Habitat for Humanity, and the Grove Mission Blitz. For 25 consecutive summers, he spent a week with the Appalachia Service Project, helping make homes warmer, safer, and drier for families in need.
Ron was a dedicated member and leader at Grove United Methodist Church, where he served as lay leader, president of the Methodist Men, a leader in family and adult ministries, and was the pitcher for the Grove softball team. He organized many Grove Church dinners and, together with Lane Jarrett, cooked numerous spaghetti dinner for Boy Scouts, raising money for college scholarships for Grove youth. His steady presence, easy humor, and quiet kindness made a difference wherever he went.
Besides his volunteer work, Ron enjoyed staying active-he played racquetball for many years and rarely missed a chance to cheer on his favorite Philadelphia sports teams. Ron enjoyed traveling his whole life, visiting all 50 states and the majority of the National Parks, mostly while camping in various rigs. He loved traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Ron dearly loved his special furry companion and buddy, Rudi.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marian Knorr; his daughters, Kimberly Sheppard (husband Brian) and Sandi Mayberry (partner John Nichols); grandchildren Maggie Mayberry (partner Danny Moore), Skylar Sheppard, Jesse Mayberry, Emma Sheppard, and Julia Maglio (partner Melanie Putnam); great grandchild Remi Moore; brother Jeff Knorr (wife Calista); sister-in-law Sue Knorr; brother-in-law Ed Rush (wife Trudy); nephews Kent Knorr, John Knorr, Ed Rush Jr., Michael Rush; and nieces Aimee Knorr and Melissa Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wally and Edna Knorr; brother Walter Knorr; nephew Jeff Rush; and niece Ashley Rush.
Ron will be remembered as a devoted family man, tireless advocate for those less fortunate, and role model to all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local food bank of your choice.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 21 at the King's Ridge Clubhouse in Clermont, FL at 11AM in the Aberdeen Room. This spring, at a date to be determined, another celebration will be held at Grove United Methodist Church in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
