Ronald McCready Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Silverton Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Toms River on Mar. 19, 2025.
Ronald Burns McCready, Jr., known to friends and family as Ron, left this world on March 1, 2025, in Daytona, FL, at the age of 54. Born on June 8, 1970, in Point Pleasant, NJ.
Ron graduated from Bricktown High School in 1988, where he was well-known for his athletic ability, particularly in hockey, playing for the Bricktown Hockey Club from 1975-1988. He continued his education at Ocean County College, where he furthered his knowledge before answering the call to serve his country.
In 1991, Ron enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, embarking on a distinguished career that saw him rise to the rank of BCMC (Master Chief Petty Officer). His exceptional skills and dedication were recognized when he became a Surfman #344, a title reserved for the most adept lifesavers in the Coast Guard. During his service, he was commissioned to the USS Gallatin for a Good Will tour, which allowed him to make an impact in approximately 22 countries around the world. Ron's received many Commendations, Ribbons, Bronze Stars, Gold Stars for Rifle Marksmanship, Team Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Presidential Unit Citation, reflecting his commitment and valor. He retired in 2019.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ron was an avid fisherman, finding solace and joy in the waves and the thrill of the catch. His enthusiasm for NASCAR was infectious, and he could often be found amid the roaring engines and cheering crowds, reveling in the excitement of the race. A proud member of the Daytona Street Rod Group.
Ron's life was defined by his unwavering dedication-to his country and the pursuits that brought him happiness. Ron's legacy will live on through the courage, camaraderie, and joy he shared with those who knew him.
He is survived by his two daughters, Samantha and Peyton McCready, and four grandchildren, whom he never stopped loving. Ron is also remembered by his devoted parents, Ronald and Susan McCready, loyal brother, Ryan McCready, his beloved Godfather, Thomas Murphy, numerous cousins, friends, and his cherished crew members.
A Memorial Visitation will be held at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River, NJ 08753 from 3:00pm - 7:00pm on Friday, March 21, 2025.
Memorial Service at Church of the Visitation, 730 Lynnwood Avenue, Bricktown, NJ 08723 at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 22, 2025.
In lieu of flowers a donation may be given to the U.S. Coast Guard Foundation, 394 Taugwonk Road, Stonington, CT 06378.
Ron's final resting place will be sent to Oregon Inlet, Outter Banks, North Carolina and Buried at Sea, Semper Paratus.

A true friend. We met at CG Bodega Bay a long time ago. He accompanied me on our Sheriff's Vessel during extreme weather conditions and assisted me in transiting the boat to SF Bay. It was his skill and knowledge that told us to turn around and go back to Bodega Bay. We stayed in contact up to weeks before he died. I got him out on Tampa Bay fishing a couple of times and spoke to him at length every few months. I am sorry to see him gone so soon. I shall always cherish our conversations about solving world problems. RIP my friend and much condolences to his Family and shipmates.

My condolences. I didn´t know you Ron but very likely know someone who does. Crossing the bar at Oregon Inlet one last time is a fitting end to your honorable service. Rest in Peace.

We knew Ron for just a short time as a member of Daytona Beach Street Rods. He was instantly likeable and he worked tirelessly helping the club raise money for charities. We were shocked to hear of his passing and plan to award an automotive scholarship in Ron's name this year. RIP Ron. Condolences to his family. Debbie and Steve Savage.
